FIN-BioFoundry
The mission of FIN-BioFoundry is to enable biotechnology and biomanufacturing to become key technologies that provide technology solutions for sustainable and resilient future societies.
To facilitate a circular bioeconomy, disruptive, systemic changes are required to replace oil as a feedstock in production processes. This requires efficient microbial cell factories that utilize biomass and/or CO2 as substrates.
FIN-BioFoundry provides highly advanced research facilities at VTT, Aalto University, University of Turku, and Tampere University that are crucial to developing modern cell factories and gaining fundamental understanding of biological mechanisms.
The research infrastructure (RI) contributes to ensuring that Finland will be amongst the forerunners in sustainable technologies and is crucial for resilient biomanufacturing.
The knowledge gained through FIN-BioFoundry-enabled research facilitates the design and development of efficient organisms and manufacturing processes for green, renewable products.
The Finnish Biofoundry for synthetic biology and biomanufacturing (FIN-BioFoundry) was selected for Finland’s National Roadmap for 2025–2028.
